祭祀活動:
Two years activities for Kew Ong Yah Temple (Hougang Tao Mu Temple) The Hougang Tao Mu Temple is one of the oldest Taoist temples in Singapore, and it is the oldest temple in Singapore dedicated to the Nine Emperors. Taoism is a religion which emphasizes on achieving a harmonious society, helping others, and not strive with any. The Tao Mu Temple will roll out an array of activities for numerous spectrum of our Singapore society, regardless of race, language or religion. Our main focus will be providing assistance to the schooling students from underprivileged families, working adults caring for families with steep financial burden (medical treatments, etc, exclude gambling or other vices), and also care for senior citizens who are lonely or require emotional support. We shall roll out initiatives to assist students from underprivileged backgrounds, or families with other heavy financial burdens such as medical fees, and may not be able to provide the students with their schooling needs. We hope to reach out to these group of students and encourage them to continue their studies and not give up. We strongly believe education is the key to social mobility, and with higher education and skills, we will be able to assist these students to find better pay jobs after they graduate and thus able to support their family and be self-reliant. If these students leave school to work, they will not be able to find higher paying jobs and thus will not be able to assist defray their family expenses in the long run. We hope to see more aspiring students through tertiary and university education, and hope they will have the opportunity to continue studying even though their families are not able to pay for their tuition fees. We hope to nurture our students into responsible citizens who will stay relevant and serve Singapore after they graduate. Singapore is facing a rapid growing population of senior citizens, and we expect many of our working adults may face with steep financial burden to care for their parents (and spouse parents), and also for their children. Matters will be worse if someone in the family requires long-term medical treatment or medication. Singaporeans earning a lower income will enjoy many benefits from assistance schemes rolled out by the government, however, we are looking at the middle class where they earn a reasonable income but could not cope with the high costs of medical treatments or other household expenses. We hope to reach out to these Singaporeans to assist and encourage them. This will provide much emotional and spiritual support to them and thus providing them a better quality of life. We are also concerned about our senior citizens and will provide them with platforms to remain active in their golden years. The temple will provide them with avenues to meet friends and to stay socially active through activities. With a growing population of senior citizens, we will cater to their needs and also provide them with free or subsidized health checks, or physiotherapic treatments. We plan to set up a centre for the aged where senior citizens can spend their time there to do some activities when their family is busy at work or school. They will be able to partake in activities under the care and supervision of qualified personnel
